Like an Eagle around New Zealand  26 Jan - 22 Feb 2008

Lake Tekapo, Mt Cook, Invercargill, Doubtful Sound

What a trip this New Zealand Odyssey was, cruising for almost 9000 (8915) k around both islands over 25 days marvelling over rock formations, boulders, scenic coastlines, hills, mountains, water falls, boiling creeks, hot springs, long sandy, surf beaches, glaciers, fjords, alpine passes, mirror lakes, jet boat trips, caves, cable cars to alpine tops, hot mud, hot springs, boiling creeks, native animals (various birds, possums, seals, dolphins, penguins, albatrosses), biker's perfect winding roads and much more, plus some of the more common tourist attractions and activities. This is a short story of scenery that no words or photos can ever come close to describe.

Collecting the Bike and Trailer from the shipping agent

After a 3.5 hour flight with Pacific Blue from Brisbane to Christchurch, we picked up our Harley Heritage Springer and trailer from the shipping agent (www.getrouted.com.au which we really really recommend) and headed south. The first real stop was Lake Tekapo with a stone brick church by the lake. Motels were booked out, but a tent, with a million dollar view over Lake Tekapo, was no problem.

Mt Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand The sun sets at 9.30, with twilight for another 45 min (NOTE great serious touring advantage). So we took a 180 k trip to Mt Cook and back for a perfect Salmon fillet meal with local beer on Australia day. The enormous snow capped mountains so close all around us, was very majestic.
