1970 ROYAL ENFIELD INTERCEPTOR

A BIG NEW HEART

Simplified and lighter, never the less stronger - this is the Stage II INTERCEPTOR-engine, and this extremely interesting new engine is showing really elite qualities.

  • Completely new crankcase.
  • Oil tank in one piece under the engine, with wide cooling flanges which produces superior air cooling.
  • Completely revised lubrication system.
  • New high output camshafts (socket) with easily dismountable components. (you can remove the camshafts with out dismantling)
  • New carburettors that supplies a much better performance across the whole range.
  • Compare - and you will choose ROYAL ENFIELD INTERCEPTOR.
  • Longer and lower seat.
  • Wider rear end
  • New battery cover.
  • Chromed rear shock absorbers.
  • Quiet stream lined mufflers.

When it was announced that Enfield Engineers Ltd. - a company which is renowned in England for its manufacture of parts for aeroplanes and armaments - was taking over the complete manufacture of Royal Enfield Interceptor motorcycles, instead of manufacturing the engine only, it was a sigh of something special in the making, and here it is a completely new Stage II Interceptor.

The machine is not mass-produced, instead is produced according to strict quality guidelines, hand made in a precision workshop, where only a limited number of machines are manufactured in a year, which then comprises of all the skill and ingenuity which England is famous for. Everybody cannot buy one, there are not enough machines to go around. This means that the Interceptor owner have their hands on something out of the ordinary, something which the other boys don't have.

WHAT DOES THIS MAGNIFICENCE ABOUT ROYAL ENFIELD MEAN?

1969 INTERCEPTOR 750 SERIES II U.S.A. MODEL

The new Royal Enfield Motorcycle, perfectly balances, proper distribution of weight and low gross weight , handles more like a 500cc than a 750cc. In reality it is a road winner with unsurpassed road holding. With a long stroke engine that lets you use that top gear more effectively, quicker acceleration higher output than what most other vertical twins are capable of. Reliable, over dimensional brakes, massive forks with rear suspension. DunlopK70 tyres it is all there to produce excellent cornering and better handling on both dry and wet roads. These makes RE the really safe motorcycle. Take a close look at the mechanics for instance of the gearbox neutral finder, which only needs light pressure from your right heel on the lever to automatically take the massive over dimensional gearbox into neutral. Annoying manoeuvring of the gearlever is not necessary. Heads and cylinders are cast separately in for easy servicing, better cooling and lower replacement cost. Engine and gearbox bearings are over dimensioned, which means long life. OIL, or course…… This all important substance was placed in the bottom of the crankcase which has cooling flanges, just like on a car. The cam shaft can easily be removed without removing the transmission sprocket.

The ALBION - gearbox (E. & H.P. Smith Co., which owns the Enfield factory and 30 other industrial companies as well as they own Albion Co.) is attached separate to the engine, like on Norton. If a gearbox or crankcase should break you only have to buy separate parts and not a whole set (as would otherwise be the case where engine, clutch and gearbox is one unit). Something which you can't get away with when it comes to many other motorcycle brands.

The characteristic described above also makes it easier to modify gear ratios with a larger choice of sprocket sizes. RE is engineered to low maintenance to the owner, particularly as some of the worlds best motorcycle technicians (many with 20 to 30 years experience in RE-service) are continuously on the move, keeping things in order. We are talking about real endurance, top capacity English motorcycle, built by loyal self-sacrificing technicians in the unique underground factory in Bradford-on-Avon (Westwood) England, where quality control has top priority.

Take a close look at the new interceptor, a bike with the same mobility as a Ferrari, same endurance as a Mercedes-Benz and the same excellent workmanship produced by skilful English worker manufacturing Rolls Royce Products. You can buy a cheaper motorcycle, but you can never get a better quality or better performance.

If our motorcycle had had four wheels, we would have called it Rolls Royce. We claim that it's in the same league, at least…… MC Firma L.O Jardenberg -Malmö Sweden-1970
